Foolish Friday:

The word fun, funnies, comes from middle English (1150-1500) fool. Trickery, foolish and bellows (Greek, full of hot air) are associated meanings, with Dutch, German, Portuguese and Spanish similarities. As we theme with laughter as the best medicine, we are reminded to not take life too seriously. Life is categorically un predictable, and we are always one step away from another misstep. Fortunately, this is true of everyone we meet or know. So, why not lighten up, do your best, but know that at times, what you do, doesn't always end up being the best action or results. There is only "lessons learned" benefits from making wrong choices, though some say this is one of the best ways to build character.

Laughter is one of the earliest universal human traits, showing up in infancy. The feeling of giddiness is a pleasant sensation felt in most people, and pursued in many. The amusement parks, the comedy stage, even the mishaps of America's best Home videos are popular examples of pursuing fun, or funnies. Almost every class has at least one class clown, and most families have one smart aleck. Saturday Night Live has been running continuously since the 70's, with no sign of slowing down,

Others have told me, and I have found it to be true; thats its the little things that lift us up, and often the little things that push us over an edge. One of the nicest things we can do is lift up another. With laughter, humor, kindness or often, just acknowledging them for being who they are. It is that simple. Part of loving your neighbor, or even more daunting, loving your enemy, is called the Golden rule: "do unto other's as you would have them do unto you". We don't all have to be standup comics or class clowns, but being nice to others is really one of the highest achievements of our species. Through loving kindness, healing emerges in both the giver and the receiver. Think on these things. As you start your day, do you wonder what good you might do? Do you keep an eye out for others in need? These are the cornerstones of a day or life well lived. Omar
