Living the good life, living well: Thursday's:

Practice Amor Fati. This is the 7th principle of stoic rising. 7 things you should do as you arise for the day. This phrase means that you should love your fait. Embrace it, don't resent it, and move on.

The order is as follows:

  1. Reflect on the transient nature of life

  2. Journal your thoughts

  3. Set daily intentions, not goals

  4. embrace discomfort

  5. Practice mindfulness and meditation

  6. Revisit stoic teachings

  7. Practice amor Fati

From the "seeker's" of Pythagoras to the followers of Socrates, the stoic path was based upon a single principle of seeking wisdom and truth. Similar to different observers of a beach ball, some say red, blue and white, some say green, yellow and orange, all reporting a similar shape, weight, and other measurable characteristics So,... it should not surprise that these lists of stoic principles are often quite similar; just different views of the understanding of life and the beach ball.

Reflecting on the transient nature of life, recognizing that you are awakening into a living being, is a way to practice gratitude. Journal your thoughts, both opens one to inspiration, but also affords a recall of dreams. Setting intentions and not goals, lessen's the emotional loads of life, allowing a clear path for the moment. Embracing discomfort is the way to self-actualize your life, and find a way to move through and beyond tough times. Practicing mindfulness and meditation is a principle of nearly all devout religions, and is seen as a path to higher levels of learning and understanding. Revisit stoic teaching's, as a way to honor and remember our elders. And finally, to practice amor fati, is to surrender to reality, and to choose to always make the best of a bad situation.
