Monday's muse and music:

It was not that long ago, that if a person, especially a politician switched core views, they were attacked for flip flopping. Today, we see politician's shifting stated views and values at the convenience of the moment. One thing that hasn't changed yet, is the lyrics to songs. They rhyme, tell a story, and are familiar to the masses. That is the power of the muse of music. Today's podcast selections are familiar union and political songs from the 20th century, one 1898.

Mankind, what an interesting word, considering that men are not all that kind, as a male gendered species of two-legged's. Plato referred to man, as a featherless cock who genuflected in the wrong direction. Throughout history, man, nation's and city-states have engaged in war. Sumeria, appears to have existed for about a thousand years (4,000-3,000BC) with only militia's and it wasn't until the construction of irrigation systems and regional boundaries that they initiated the military emphasis of modern societies. Around 2,000 BC, the Sumerian's would be absorbed into the people of Babylon. The countless wars of the Mesopotamian regions, Greece and Rome preceded centuries of feudal conflicts, the fall of Roman influence and the addition of the Muslim crusades to the west.

Europe would continue to have national agenda's that included war, invasion and boundary/territorial disputes. Asia did not show "mankind", but has so many regional histories, that their co-equivalence in history and history books, with the tiny, aggressive nation's of England, Germany, France and Spain is unwarranted. India itself has over 300,000 cities, with regional populations and cultures that date back thousands of years. Tibet, China, Mongolia, the jungles and delta's of Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Tanzania and the pacific Islands, all had long storied histories. We live in a Euro-centric world and reality, and we really are getting what we deserve. Old tradition's with false values, and a manufactured national image is the way of the West, and now is becoming the ways of the many East's.
