Monday's Muse, Music:

The theme of the week is service with a smile. Lao Tzu wrote that if you love your job, you will never work a day in your life. I have found this to be true throughout my life. There is almost no task that I cannot approach with a positive and uplifted attitude. Furthermore, I have found that most mishap's and injuries happen when my mind is wandering, especially toward the negative. I have enjoyed tearing out walls and damaged structurte's, with remediation, and especially, with the painting and finishing touches of a remodel.

Rotted tissues, and fetid accident's were the two medical condition's that I would find as a doctor, that I never could leap with joy and pleasure, though the relief on a patient's face when you drained a boil or cyst was priceless. Sometime's the speculum's or tongue depressor's revealed "ugly" states of infection or inflammation, but you could protect your nose from the repugnant odor's, though your stomach might turn, and your mind would assault the differential diagnosis and wonder how it got to this advanced state.

One time, a clearly impaired woman who was a frequent volunteer at our community radio station, came to my clinic, complaining of foot pain, with mukluck's on. When I took the boots off, curled toe nail's of about 8 inches of length. A very fix, and clearly she was disabled when it came to trimming her own nail's or identifying a clearly abnormal condition, nor seeking care for the condition. 10 minutes of familiar skill's and a very happy and relieved patient.

Virtue, is it's own reward, is a worthy life philosophy. Virtue is a word that describes human qualities of valor, ethics and physical accomplishment's originally, and especially for the Roman's, excellence in battle. For the Roman's some of the virtue's included the rewards of rape and pillage of being the victor. Howsoever, if our personal views of our action's is one of benefit, it can lighten the load. Service, as a minimally costly action, is one of these virtuous actions, and service with a smile not only lighten's the load, but speeds the completion of the task.
