Thursday, Living the Good Life:

Living well, living the good life begins with intention. Intention without knowledge is random, and rarely consistent. Knowledge comes to us through a variety of sources. Our family beliefs create the template through which we process our world. Private and public education becomes the second primary source of knowledge, and has always been an unequal source, with racial, regional and economic influences throughout. Our family roots have been influenced through our friendships i school, church and local events. Our post graduate source of knowledge is selected by our own viewing and reading habits. From these sources we seek to be the best navigator of our own life journey. This would be wonderfully easy were it not for reality.

If our educations were non-prejudicial, our choices would be made out of logical consideration's; however our sources have been anything but non-prejudicial. Our government agencies have long since been coopted by the interests that they are supposed to monitor. Our research dollars follow the lead of the pharmaceutical industry, our agricultural system has been an anything goes poisoning of our land and food philosophy since its onset. Our foods are genetically rearranged, and laced with preservatives and additives. If we follow the leader, the marketing, the blind acquiescence of the regulatory agencies, and the fast food influences of our neighbor's, we cannot possibly live the good life.

Good nutrition is easy, but you have to throw out the baby with the bathwater. So much of our "education" is suspect, and thinking you can hold on to authoritative advice is a clear pitfall. Next Thursday I will blog on the basic dietary practices of healthy nutrition.
