Thursday's Good Life

No one knows the change of consciousness that occurs with our last breath. Do we have some measure of eyes that see, and ears that hear? I have my thoughts and I will soon archive a journal article that I wrote nearly 10 years ago. I agree with the writings of Paracelsus, who believed our soul "physically" remains where we last lived, observing the community that we held dear. We might hear people talking about us, and hopefully we might hear the expression: "A Life Well Lived".While this is a common expression, few could define what that means, and what measures it entails.

There are qualities and actions in life, that clearly don't belong in a life well lived. Too short, or as we say too soon, or before our times. Forgiveness and recovery aside, impacting our reality with "substance" that alters our perceptions and feelings is clearly a poor choice, and rarely do we qualify those who have redeemed themselves, "a life well lived". Acceptance of our own limitations is a prerequisite to a good life, even through the endurance of pain and disabilities. Life itself has pain and we all have disabilities of some nature.

How we walk our journey is another measure of importance. I think the easiest list is found in the 7 antidotes or virtues. Simple: vigilance or determination, restraint and abstinence, chastity or moderation, kindness and courage, gratitude and encouragements, service and charity, and finally humility. These qualities provide a certainty of good measure, and reveal themselves in how others see us, and this is in itself the determinant of truely, "A Life Well Lived".
