Thursday's, Living the Good Life:

There are three Greek roots to then word good. Kalos, free from defects, and beautiful, agathos, moral excellence and chrestos, something that is useful, profitable or serviceable, later to include kindness and goodness of the heart. Healthy, functional and kind, is a three part definition found within "Living the Good Life".

To be healthy, part of a good life, you must maintain healthy habits. Core components are good nutrition and hydration, attention to your body's many symptomatic voices, movement, social friendships, family and security. I like to think that music, art and dance are essential, though not as immediate as a lack of food or water. Good nutrition is an entire subject, and one of these day's, I will go into this topic with greater detail, for now, eat only foods that spoil and eat them before they spoil. Seek variety, don't overcook, emphasize organic.

To be functional, you need to function. Exercise, walking, dancing, tooling, mental exercises are all functions that are self-redeeming, and productive builder's of greater skill and understanding. Kindness is both a goal and a steady state practice in your walk.

Finally, the pursuit of moral excellence. Just Do It, to steal a line from "The Russian's are coming, the Russian's are coming". Feed the hungry, counsel and comfort the anxious, employ, as in, provide a purpose for those that are lost, and be kind to yourself.

Sometimes, dividing a word into parts furthers our use and understanding of same. These three subcategories are not bad compasses for our daily walks.
